Out of the comfort zone.

I’m in a writing group on the old book of face which runs contest. There is no prize, just the experience of working on something that might not be in your comfort zone. This month the theme is poetry. I’m ok at poetry, but only ok. It’s not something I excel in. I will still have a go though because practice is practice. Not that it makes perfect. It makes you more capable of working in that isn’t your wheelhouse and even if it’s not something you like to do you could at least become capable. In my experience it’s better to be capable in a lot of all this that just being specialised. Also, you can be great at one thing and capable in lots of others. Specialising just leads to the ability to be pigeonholed and then just be overlooked as soon as your specialisation isn’t needed.

If there is a point to this, there is no problem being a jack of all trades, and if you choose to be great in a few of those things too, then more power to you.
