I recently listened to All The Fiends Of Hell by Adam L. G. Nevill. What a story! It’s a close-up view of the life of Karl, just an ordinary man in the midst of a heavy bout of flu. His dreams have been filled with red skies and the loud ringging of bells. He wakes to find that he is one of a handful of people who have survived an invasion by a mysterious alien species.
It reminds me in ways of War Of The Worlds and the film version of Childern Of Men. People surviving against the odds and a whole lot of confusion as to what is actually happening.
Read this book.
